New car search - Tesla X experience

Updated: Oct 27, 2024
I have been looking for a new car for over six months now. I've driven so many, that I don't even know which features I need or want anymore. My husband suggested we check out Tesla. I was apprehensive as I didn't know anything about electric vehicles. I decided that it couldn't hurt to check them out. I mean, we have looked at so many other brands. So, we stopped at our local dealership and looked at the two SUV options they had as demo vehicles. We sat in the Model X first. It's the fancy one with the wing doors. It's very roomy and has lots of ways to customize the vehicle. It was a 6-7 seater vehicle that felt roomy in each seat except for the very back. I thought it was cramped for an adult but it would be perfect for children. The truck had plenty of space for whatever you were carrying. The third-row seats fold down to increase that space by about two and a half to three feet. It also has a frunk (front trunk) to hold additional items. It was too big for us and much more expensive than the Model Y. I signed up for a demo drive. While I was waiting, they suggested I take out the model X. The Model Y was already out on a demo drive so we could take the X out right away. They said we could take the Model Y out when we got back so we took the Model X first. The spacious interior and comfortable seating immediately caught my attention, it offers ample room for passengers and cargo. You can easily access the third row.

This demo vehicle was a deep blue metallic model X with black interior and 20" rims. I would normally gravitate towards a white car since I live in Arizona. It's super hot here in the summer so all Arizonaians tend to prefer a white vehicle. We think it helps with the inside temperature after the vehicle sits in the sun all day. I don't know if that's true or not but that's what we think.
The Model X was a smooth drive. It was quick and handled well. It has all the same safety features that most other cars have. You control all the features from the large touchscreen display. You can customize the car for each driver. You can have multiple drivers assigned to the car so each person has their profile how they want it. I liked that I could use my phone as a key to the car. This is a great feature that I would personally use as a busy working Mom. I mean, you always have your phone with you so that's a huge convenience. It shows who in the car is buckled and who is not. I love that feature.
Safety is important for us moms, and the Model X didn't disappoint. The advanced autopilot system can provide a sense of security on the road, while features like collision avoidance and automatic emergency braking add an extra layer of protection. I think the autopilot would take some getting use to but it would be super helpful once you gain some trust in this futurist feature. I felt that the performance of the Model X was impressive with its instant torque and smooth acceleration. It was a nice and enjoyable driving experience. I felt safe driving it. I love the electric range and I can appreciate the convenience of not having to worry about frequent stops at the gas station. Especially with the recent gas price fluctuations. The current estimated range on this vehicle is 325 to 335 on a full charge.
Overall, my test drive of the Tesla Model X was great. I was surprised at how spacious the interior was. I liked all the technology and safety features it came standard with. It had good visibility with the large windshield and I didn't notice any blindspots. It would make it a nice choice for anyone looking for a stylish, comfortable, and safe vehicle. The MSRP is $79,990 per the Tesla website and that's for the base Model X. The Plaid which is their top-of-the-line trim, has a price tag of $94,990.
